Blog #19: Just a Short Hello

Hello!  Thank you for reading these blog posts! It means a lot to me that you are taking the time to join me on my 31-day journey!

It’s been a long day, and I need to be up in a few short hours so that I can be on time for my mammogram , which is scheduled for 7:15 am. Then I’ll give a friend to her medical appointment in downtown Pittsburgh, and after that I’m not sure how the day will unfold. But I pray that I will be useful, and able to look with kind eyes on those I meet.

The area where I live has had an upsurge in Covid cases, so I will be sure to wash my hands often and wear a mask.  My challenge is to look with kind eyes on those I meet out in public who are not wearing a mask, and so are not only risking their own health but also mine and prolonging my wait until I can see my 6 -year-old niece, because visits are off until the risk goes down.  Is there someone you find it difficult to look at with kind eyes? Someone for whom you find it difficult to have compassion? Ask yourself, “Why? What is it about this person, this group, that I dislike about myself?”

So please pray as I go out and about tomorrow (Tuesday).. Praythat I may have kind eyes and a kind heart toward those who mistrust of the world and people around them on such a profound level that they put themselves and their loved ones at risk of getting sick

For those asking, my brother is doing well. After being treated at the emergency room, after the results from the scans and he tests, he was released, got some rest at his hotel and is now back at his home recovering.

Today’s prayer poem is a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson that I have loved since I found it on plaque that I then hung on my bedroom wall in junior high:

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” Ralph Waldo Emerson.
